HAS THE ADOPTION TREND BECOME LUCRATIVE BUSINESS?

The African Continent has many orphans and vulnerable children who need holistic help. Many of these orphans have lost one parent (single orphaned) while other kids were unfortunate enough to lose both parents( double orphaned).
Many individuals and organizations are helping these children in a way or the other, and such people need to be recommended and appreciated. It is however amazing to see how adopting African children it has become trendy.
We are witnessing a number of good caring people from the West coming to take African children for adoption. I wish I had precise figures of children who go out of Africa on yearly basis for adoption. More than ever, this kind of adoption trend is rising. It seems the idea of supporting orphanages based in Africa is no longer as appealing as adopting those orphans. Some defend the idea of adopting by the fact that the foster parents will directly take care of these kids without wasting their money to the orphanages and African guardians who may misuse those funds. The adoption which is done because of compassion and love should be welcomed. On the other hand we should ask ourselves if there is no hidden business in this rising adoption trend. It would very wrong to ban the cross cultural adoption because adoption is neither slave trade nor human trafficking.
What do you think about the current rising trend in cross continental, cross-cultural and cross-racial adoption? Is it based on mere compassion or there are some immediate and long term lucrative benefits?
How come this kind of adoption is gathering momentum whereas African immigrants( whether legal or illegal immigrants) aren't welcome in some places which welcome the young adopted Africans?

Thank you Thomas!
It is interesting reading your post on adoption.

I do not know the situation of adoption in your country but I think it could have been equally good if you have some adoption figures to support your statement. One can say something about it lucrative nature based on the recent trend.

What I cannot say at the moment is the rate at which Ghanains or other nationals are adopting children. What i know is following adoption procedure in Ghana is very cumbersome. It is possible that the law or the procedure were made to discourage adoption, which for me is good in a way.

Thank you

Re: HAS THE ADOPTION TREND BECOME LUCRATIVE BUSINESS?

Dear Paul,
Akwaba from the Kingdom of Swaziland!
Thanks for the comments. Well,i wished I could get the precise figures of these adoptions on yearly basis. But it hasn't been easy. I wish there was something like African Institute on Adoption. While there has been much focus on migration of "illegal migrants" and the so called "Brain Drain"caused by the excessive exodus of African intellectuals who go overseas for "Greener Pastures", it is high time we saw the think-tanks on " The Current Growing Adoption Trend". As I said, adoption isn't bad if done in proper ways without any hidden agenda. After all these African kids can enjoy a better life. However we need thinkers and analysts to tell us the long terms implications of these rising adoptions.
If it is proven to be a great thing, we may suggest that even adult Africans(illegal migrants) who risk their lives to cross over to Europe get the rights to be adopted just as the younger ones!
Many thanks for your thoughts and GOD bless.
